McCoy up for BBC SPOTY award Tony McCoy is among the 10 nominees for this year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. The record-breaking rider won the prize back in 2010 in the year he finally broke his Grand National hoodoo, and is once again up for top honours in the season that saw him notch his 4,000th winner at Towcester earlier this month. The 39-year-old faces some stiff competition, however, with the likes of Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, athlete Mo Farah and Sir Ben Ainslie, who secured a famous comeback victory for US outfit Oracle in sailing's America's Cup. The public will vote for their favourite on December 15, and Murray is long to be crowned at the ceremony in Leeds. Coral's Nicola McGeady said: "We believe that Andy Murray is a certainty to claim the award, having finished in third place last year, behind Sir Bradley Wiggins and Jessica Ennis. After being crowned Wimbledon champion, he was heavily backed into long-odds on and he's now the shortest-priced favourite in the history of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award." In addition to the main award there will also be awards for team of the year, coach of the year, Overseas Sports Personality of the Year, Young Sports Personality of the Year, Sports Personality of the Year Diamond Award, Helen Rollason Award and Sports Unsung Hero. The shortlist was decided by a panel comprising representatives from the BBC, selected journalists, former nominees Dame Kelly Holmes, Baroness Grey-Thompson and Marcus Trescothick, and Liz Nicholl, chief executive of UK Sport.
