McGill grabs Kilbeggan double on Kershaw Oran McGill partnered a double in Kilbeggan courtesy of Kershaw who also supplied handler Paul Trynor with his first bumper winner. McGill got after the leader on the approach to the home bend as he tried to get away from Seven Towers and Lultimatom. Seven Towers cracked in the final furlong, but Patrick Mullins switched Lultimatom to the far rail and the pair came with a late run at Kershaw. The leader had done enough, though, and held on by a diminishing neck at 11/2 from the 9/4 runner-up. Seven Towers was almost three lengths back in third at 10/1. Traynor said: "I’m delighted to get my first bumper winner. “I’ve had this horse since he was a foal. I bought him off John Kidd, he was a gorgeous foal. “He ran a savage race in his point-to-point around Loughanmore, it was a really fast time. The winner was Mister Pessimistic and the race has produced a few winners. “We just couldn’t get a bit of nice ground for him, it was a rotten winter. “He got blocked three times running down the hill in Down Royal and couldn’t get out. If he had got out, he would have been a good second. “Coming here, I wasn’t sure how he’d handle the track. I thought he had a bit of class and he’s proved it. “He’s done really good bits of work around Dreaper’s field and his homework has been great. “He’s a brilliant hurdler and we’ll see what happens. He’s in my own colours and there were a lot of boys interested in him after his point-to-point. If the price is right we might sell him.” McGill was also victorious aboard the gambled-on Fort Randall in race three. Additional reporting by Gary Carson
