Ado McGuinness is targeting more stakes success at the Curragh on Saturday with two of his stable stars.

The Lusk handler had a terrific campaign last season which yielded a first stakes winner when Current Option landed a Listed contest at Cork.

That same horse went on to take the Group 3 Concorde Stakes at Tipperary and aims for another win at the same level in the Gladness Stakes this weekend.

He will be joined at HQ by stablemate Bowerman who is set to line up in the Group 3 Alleged Stakes on the same card.

The seven-year-old has been a stable stalwart in recent years and also scored at this level for the yard last season when taking the Diamond Stakes at Dundalk in September.

He was last seen when landing a famous win for the yard in a valuable Group 2 contest in Qatar in February.

“Current Option and Bowerman will both run at the Curragh on Saturday. I’m very happy with both of them,” said McGuinness.

“Bowerman has his first run back since his trip away. Hopefully the ground won’t be too dead.

“He’s up against it. Aidan has some good entries and we’ll have to see what turns up. It’s great to have horses that are capable of running in these races.

“We are looking at a race at Belmont in June, that we've got an invitation to, but it’s such a hassle with the Covid and you could end up having a member of staff away for a month.

“It’s very expensive for one horse and we are doing a costing on the whole thing at the moment. It’s a 700,000 dollar race and I’d love to go but it’s such a hassle.”

“I think Current Option will run a big race in the Gladness.

“I knew he was a bit short going to Dundalk (finished fourth last month) and he’s always a bit gassy starting off. He likes to have a run and it’s good to get that under his belt.

“He’s done a few bits of work and I’m happy with him.”
