Kartayaz sprang a 50/1 shock in the first division of the ten furlong handicap at Dundalk to give Zoe McMullan her first winner.

The George Kingston-trained gelding was securing his fourth course and distance win but hadn’t scored in just over three years.

McMullan sat in behind the leaders today on the eight-year-old and produced him to challenge passing the furlong pole.

The Iffraaj gelding gained a narrow lead in the closing stages and held Boyne Valley late on to secure a half-length success.

McMullan said: "Oh my God, I'm buzzing!

"I was happy the whole way and when he came off the bridle, he just kept finding and finding for me. Then I thought, 'I'm going to win this!'.

"I was thinking 'did I actually just win this?'. This is unbelievable, you can't describe the feeling at all. You dream of that. Funny I dreamed last night that he won! The only difference was that I made all, which I didn't do today!

"I'm a bit late to the party to be fair. I point-to-pointed before and had three rides point-to-pointing. I'm very light - I'm 6st 10lb. Then I did a little flapping, I flapped for Ronnie Wilson back many years ago and I was champion lady jockey back then.

"I broke my leg this time last year and I was still going to the races. George was there and he needed a hand with a horse. I had the cage or the boot on at the time, and I gave him a hand.

“He said when I was back riding to give him a shout. I gave him a shout and it is thanks to him I took the Flat licence out. I'm full-time with George.

"I'm 27 and from Ballymoney in the north (Co Antrim).

"I can do any weight no problem! Open to more rides - the more, the merrier!"
