Noel Meade is looking towards targets in the second half of the season for his Tattersalls Gold Cup winner Helvic Dream.

A wide margin winner at Group 3 level last autumn, the gelded son of Power had gradually been getting closer to Broome in his first three starts of the campaign before getting the better of Aidan O’Brien’s colt by a short head after a great tussle a week ago.

A 12K yearling purchase, the 4-year-old has thus far accrued nearly 290K in prize-money, but all four of his victories have come on either soft or heavy ground and Meade is mindful of that as he makes future plans for his first ever Group 1 winner on the Flat.

“He’s been in form good since the win in the Curragh - there is not a bother on him.

“I’d say we’ll give him a break for about a month and think about the backend of the season with him. I haven’t left him off yet but that’s the way I’m thinking.

“There is nothing for him here really and he wants a good cut in the ground.”
