City Of Memphis made a winning return to action with a cosy success in the seven furlong conditions event at Gowran Park this evening.

Paddy Twomey ’s charge was making her first outing since finishing fifth behind Lake Victoria in last season’s Irish 1,000 Guineas and went to post a 11/10 favourite.

She tracked front-runner Lord Massusus before edging into the lead, for Billy Lee, passing the two marker.

The daughter of Sioux Nation was asked for an effort over a furlong out and was always doing enough in the closing stages to post a length-and-three-quarter win over Cowardofthecounty

"She had a setback as a two-year-old and I was keen not to over-race her last year,” said Twomey.

"She is a nice filly and this was a perfect race for her. All of mine are a bit 'short' this year and she is a bit rusty.

"Alan (O'Flynn) buys these fillies to race, breed or sell, or whatever and the idea would be to win a group race.

“He gave a good price for her at the breeze-ups and she is a talented filly. She has the ability to do so.

"She is with us two years and I have ran her twice but we'll see how she is and I won't rush her.

“The Ridgewood Pearl Stakes (Group 2, Curragh in May) would be a very good race for her. We're hopeful she will have a very good season."
