David Menusier believes the “sky is the limit” for Lost Boys following his impressive Royal Ascot win, with connections now contemplating ambitious Pattern race targets.

The Sussex trainer admitted upcoming discussions with owners Wathnan Racing are set to determine the colt’s next target after he justified heavy favouritism in the Golden Gates Stakes last week.

But the trainer, on the mark with his only runner at the meeting, hinted they would be ambitious ones given the rate of improvement shown by the son of Night Of Thunder, who has won four of his six career races.

“It needs to be discussed with the owners but the sky is the limit with this colt – that’s how we feel,” said Menuisier.

“He is obviously a nice horse and there is nothing more or less he could have done so far so we are excited about his future. It is a matter of taking things step-by-step and see where he takes us.”

Lost Boys is now unbeaten in his last four including three this season, winning at Sandown and Newbury in the London Gold Cup off marks of 83 and 89 respectively. At Ascot he ran off 96 but produced arguably his most impressive display to date.
