Meriden landed the spoils for trainer Denis Hogan and jockey Chris Hayes in the Boylesports (0-60) Handicap this afternoon.

Despite being keen in the early stages, the daughter of Bated Breath, who was supported in the market before the race from odds of 16/1 down to an SP of 8/1, showed a great attitude when it mattered most winning by half a length

Travelling strongly throughout the contest, she dug deep in the closing stages to deny the Claire O'Connell-trained Dervo Annie who was ridden by Colin Keane.

Jockey Chris Hayes said "It is my first winner for the lads. It was nice. "I didn't think the track or the draw really helped her. I couldn't get her on her off lead, for whatever reason she was more comfortable on her near lead.

"I was conscious of keeping an eye on Colin (Keane, Dervo Annie). "She even unbalanced me up the straight - I kind of half took a speed wobble on her, but she stuck at it well and she has a good attitude. "She's in at the Curragh and I think a more conventional track like that will suit her."
