Migdam settles well over hurdles to score for the Buckleys The father and son team of Ned and Kieren Buckley successfully combined with Migdam in the opening Willis Towers Watson Maiden Hurdle at Tramore. The field was reduced to eight runners after morning favourite Bold Fury was an absentee due to coughing and there was a line of four horses across the track as they approached the penultimate flight. The long-time leader Tricksofthetrade fell at the second last and MIgdam, who was travelling well on the outer, was soon in front. The 3/1 shot, successful four times on the Flat and claimed out of Ado McGuinness’ yard last month, kept on well on the run-in to beat Deed Pole by five and a half lengths. The 6/4 favourite Cosmos D’ainay found little after two out finishing a further 11 lengths back in third. Ned Buckley said, “He ran well the first day in Ballinrobe. He had the handbrake on for three-quarters of the race there because he is so free. He is used to running over seven furlongs on the Flat. “The first day was just to get him to switch off and learn the game, but he finished like a train. Today he really settled lovely, and I was surprised by that. "The good ground is important to him. He is Flat bred horse by a sire (Zelzal) who I had never heard of before. He's had a few jumps winners in France, but mostly on the Flat though. "He is big enough to jump a fence, but he is in such a hurry the whole time. We had the hood on him today and Kieren has done a lot of work with him at home, schooling him, getting him to settle and getting him to switch off and there is the result today. "Just chatting to the lads (Enduring Love Syndicate) there and they'd like a trip to England. He'd be an ideal horse to go to England as he'd love the ground over there and the small fields. We might see what's coming up over there. “He could run on the Flat either and at the moment it's all up in the air." Quotes by Donal Murphy
