Milanaway records elusive first success under Donovan

A 25-race maiden coming into the race, the Denis Hogan trained Milanaway belatedly opened her account when making virtually all under Philip Donovan to take Division l of the Matchbook Best Odds On Festive Racing Handicap Hurdle at Punchestown.

Soon at the head of affairs, the Tim Conroy-owned and bred seven-year-old led her rivals for the majority of the contest.

Strongly pressed by Yoursimplythebest approaching the final flight, the 25/1 chance was briefly headed on the run-in but showed real determination to rally inside the last 150 yards to win by two lengths.

Donovan said: “She did it well and I’m delighted for the man that owns her, as he bred her.

“That’s her 26th run and I’m delighted that she’s got her head in front.

“She’s been consistent. That’s her grade and hopefully there might be a bit more to come from her.”
