Minella Hollow reaches higher over hurdles Minella Hollow (11/2) helped Daniel King keep up his good run of form as he steered John Nallen's charge to success in the first division of the ML Lynch Civil Engineering Ltd. Maiden Hurdle at Killarney. A two-time winner in bumpers, this was the son of Beat Hollow's first victory over hurdles as he made all to beat the royal-owned Reaching High (15/8JF) by half a length. He ran around a bit before two out and appeared to be in trouble approaching the last; however, he capitalised on the eventual runner-up's mistake at the last and kept on well to the line. Kingstonian (15/8JF) finished a further length and a quarter back in third after staying on well up the run-in. "We found it hard to keep him sound last season but brought him back this year and he has been 100%. We gave him a run back in Roscommon but hadn't had him away schooling, and he chipped in plenty that day," reported Nallen's assistant trainer James 'Corky' Carroll. "He came on today, he was very fresh and stuck his neck out. Willie's (Mullins' runner-up Reaching High) made a mistake at the last but we also got in close to it, but were quickly away. "There is a for sale sign on him." Additional reporting by Thomas Weekes.
