Thirteen contenders will line up for the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on Saturday, with Modern Games heading the field.

Modern Games, who won the Juvenile Turf in 2021 and the Mile last term, has tasted Group One success in France and Canada but is yet to achieve a British win at the highest level.

Laurel, trained by John and Thady Gosden, will be one of his main rivals. In the Sun Chariot last year, Laurel finished a narrow second, and opened with an easy Listed win on Kempton's all-weather surface last month.

My Prospero takes his chances for William Haggas on his seasonal debut and was last seen finishing third in the Champion Stakes at Ascot in the autumn.

Jadoomi, who finished third in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on his first attempt at Group One company last year, will return for Simon and Ed Crisford. Mutasaabeq arrives at Newbury on the back of a front-running success in the bet365 Mile at Newmarket earlier this month for Charlie Hills.

Light Infantry finished third in that event for David Simcock and reopposes, as does William Knight’s fourth-placed Checkandchallenge.

Richard Hannon saddles Chindit and Lusail, first and fourth in the Paradise Stakes at Ascot recently.

Berkshire Shadow, Jumby, Triple Time and The Wizard Of Eye complete the line up, with Angel Bleu and Cash the only horses not declared.
