Mojave River gives Browne McMonagle a double Just the four runners went to post for the mile median auction race in Cork and it was Joseph O'Brien's Mojave River who passed the post first to give Dylan Browne McMonagle a double on the card. The 4/6 favourite rallied to regain the lead approaching the final furlong, but had to withstand Sonoran's late challenge. The latter kept on well close home, but was half a length in arrears at the line. Browne McMonagle was earlier successful on Red Evolution for Michael O'Callaghan in the valuable Doneraile Handicap. The jockey said: "I felt the further I went, the better she was getting. She was getting it nice and easy out in front, she travelled well and picked up nicely. It took a while for her to lengthen, but in the final furlong she stuck her head down. "When Gary (Carroll, on Sonoran) came on my outside, I felt like she was only doing enough but always doing enough at the same time, and it is good to get her head back in front. "She had a disappointing run in Royal Ascot (20th in Sandringham), but going back racing around a turn today definitely helped and hopefully it is onwards and upwards now." The Raceday Stewards interviewed G.F. Carroll, rider of Sonoran, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted he was in breach of the Whip Regulation and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that G.F. Carroll was in breach of R.10.3(g)(frequency) and having considered his clean record in this regard, they suspended him for two racedays. Additional reporting by Tom Weekes
