The 10/11 favourite Molto Amichi made all the running to record a cosy success in the Killarney Glamping Handicap this evening.

Ridden by Luke McAteer for trainer Eoin Griffin, the five-year-old was well on top as he beat the nine-year-olds Earls and Howyoulikethat (winner of the same race in 2023) by two and a half lengths and three and a half lengths respectively.

It was a fully deserved success as the Muchos Amigos Syndicate-owned winner is a five-time runner-up.

Griffin said: “It’s more of a relief than anything else. It’s been a while coming and unfortunately horses like him tend to get a reputation maybe for being ungenuine and it wouldn’t be well deserved in his case.

“He’s been second five times and third and fourth another four times, I think. We were just wondering if it was ever going to happen.

“We’ve employed a little bit more positive tactics with him. We did in Leopardstown the last day but he just hit a soft patch of ground about half-a-furlong from home and it stopped him in his tracks.

“The ground was beautiful here today and he did it handy enough in the end.”

When asked if jockey Luke McAteer was positive coming here after the last run he added: “We’ve all been positive with him before and ended up being frustrated! He has been very frustrating but at the same time running well and not quite getting there.

“Hopefully he’ll get a bit of confidence from this and we can motor on from here.

“I’m delighted, there is a real good bunch of lads involved in him and they’ve never lost hope in him.

“I suppose as lads aren’t having to put their hands in pockets to much for training fees it’s a help. He has been paying his way.

“I’m not 100 percent sure Galway would really suit him. The lads might like a day out there and we might consider it. We’ll see.

“He wants a bit of nice ground without it being too quick. No real plan.”
