Monarchos sidelined by hairline fracture

Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos has suffered an injury and will be out of action for up to two months.

X-rays have shown the colt has a subchondral hairline fracture of the third carpal bone of the right knee.

But trainer John T Ward stressed to the Bloodhorse: 'It`s a really small fracture. You really have to use your imagination to find it.'

Since his victory in the Kentucky Derby in May, Monarchos has finished sixth in the Preakness Stakes and third in the Belmont Stakes.
