The Dermot Weld trained Alice Monet brought up some nice bets when justifying strong late support to win the opening Dino Family Day @ fairyhouse Optional Claiming Race at Fairyhouse.

Mid-division on her racecourse debut over a mile at Dundalk in February, the daughter of Teofilo failed to get competitive dropped in trip to 6f at this track last time.

However, racing over 10-furlongs for the first time this afternoon, the 9/4 (from 5/1) chance looked a totally different proposition as she routed a trio of rivals.

Sent straight to the front by Chris Hayes exiting stalls, Alice Monet looked to have a race on her hands as market leader Wonderfulwonderful loomed up to challenge under Donagh O'Connor over two-furlongs out.

As soon as Hayes asked for more the response was instant, with Alice Monet stretching right away to beat the latter by 10 lengths.

Dermot Weld said: “The plan was to make it. I thought the others had more speed in their pedigrees and that’s why we decided to make the running. She settled well in front.

“She’s been a late developing filly, and she’s progressed.

“I’m in favour of the way these races are framed. They work exceptionally well in America, and they will work well here in time as well.”
