Monksland gearing up for chasing debut Noel Meade's promising Monksland is set to start his novice campaign over fences in the next month. The five-year-old was third behind Simonsig in the Neptune Investment Management Hurdle at Cheltenham last year but will head over the bigger obstacles this year rather than continuing over hurdles. "The plan is to go over fences with him," Meade told At The Races. "He'll be out and about in three weeks time, and we're looking at a two and a half mile beginners' chase at somewhere like Navan or Punchestown. "All is well at the moment and he's done everything we want of him; he's in good shape. "He's run in a point-to-point and he's been schooled before over fences last year, although not this year because of the ground."
