Moonshine Girl stays on best for Jody Townend The Paul Gilligan-trained Moonshine Girl (12/1) was, in the end, a comprehensive winner of the Colm Quinn BMW Handicap for rider Jody Townend giving both Jody and brother Paul a winner on the card. The seven-year-old daughter of Sea Moon travelled in mid-division throughout the contest as the heavily backed Shotgun Jack led for the entire way until the final 150 yards. However, when Townend really gave her command, Moonshine Girl responded well for pressure and, in the final furlong, extended away to win by thirteen lengths. Speaking after the race, trainer Paul Gilligan said: "Jody gets on so well with this mare, and she just goes for her. We were cautious of the ground today, but she is all heart and is a great mare to have. The two gel together. "Years ago, we were lucky enough to have had a winner with AP (McCoy) riding our filly, who bolted in at Fontwell. I told him afterwards that we might give her a break now, but he said, 'Are you mad!' and to keep running. We might do that with this one too." (Quotes from Tom Weekes)
