Moore hails O'Brien brothers after Derby victory Ryan Moore hailed the work ethic of Joseph and Donnacha O’Brien after the brothers combined to claim Saturday’s Irish Derby with Latrobe. Moore was aboard red-hot favourite Saxon Warrior in the Curragh Classic, trained by Joseph and Donnacha’s father, Aidan. However, Saxon Warrior could finish only third as Latrobe recorded a famous victory, with Aidan O’Brien-trained runners filling out the second, third, fourth and fifth places. The ultra-competitive Moore is rarely happy in defeat but admitted he did not begrudge the O’Brien brothers their day in the sun. “They’re both a credit to their family, they work very hard and they’ve both made a lot of sacrifice over the years riding,” Moore told At The Races. “They’re two great lads and I’m honestly delighted for them.” Although out of luck in the main event, the formidable combination of O’Brien senior and Moore enjoyed nine winners across the three-day meeting. Reflecting on the Derby success of his sons, the Ballydoyle handler said: “It was unbelievable day. “We don’t have much time for celebrations. We go home and get the tea and get the work done for the next day.”
