Muhaarar blitzes Commonwealth field Muhaarar produced a sensational performance to run away with the inaugural Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. Although he had little to race against on the far side, the Charles Hills-trained colt surged to the front a furlong out and went on to win by four lengths going away from the valiant Limato with Anthem Alexander back in third. Tiggy Wiggy bounced out of the stalls and took them through the early stages at break-neck speed in company with French raider Goken before the horses fanned out for he final two-and-a-half furlongs. Anthem Alexander appeared to be travelling most sweetly and Limato was making eye-catching ground on the same side having started slowly but at the other end, Dane O'Neill was revving Muhaarar in to top gear and he easily put the race to bed in the final furlong. Despite boasting Gimcrack and Greenham victories, Muhaarar went off at a sizeable 10-1, with Ryan Moore's mount Hootenanny a disappointing favourite in midfield. When asked if Muhaarar was the best horse he'd ever trained, Hills said: "I think so. Chriselliam was very good but this guy is very good. He's very versatile as well. He showed a lot of speed today and he gets better and better with racing. "He's still improving so there's a lot to look forward to. Obviously he ran over a mile last time and was in the Jersey but Sheikh Hamdan made the decision to come here and for all the right reasons. "It's a Group 1 and it looked a proper race. He did it in such great style and on such fast style. He's not really ground dependent. We'll have a look at all those nice races because he's got the world at his feet."
