Emmet Mullins has given updates on potential Ballybrit runners starting with The Shunter who landed the Grade 3 Paddy Power Plate Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

The eight-year-old gelding has since been placed in a Grade One novice chase at Aintree and a Grade B handicap hurdle in Punchestown.

“The Shunter could run at Galway. He had a little break after Punchestown and no horse deserved one more than him. He seems to have done well for it," Mullins said.

“He’s just come back into training recently and we’ll keep an open mind about where he’ll go. He’s an extraordinary horse and you just never know what he could do."

Cape Gentleman, who was a beaten favourite in fifth in the Ascot Stakes, also looks bound for the festival.

The trainer said: “Cape Gentleman is none the worse of his run at Royal Ascot. I gave Rachael (Blackmore) the wrong instructions on the day and we were too far back but he took the race well.

“Patrick (Mullins) tells me on the stats that you can’t win the amateur handicap off top-weight. He could go to Galway for a hurdle race over a trip, but I’m not sure yet which race he’ll go for."

Cape Gentleman was a Grade 2 winner over hurdles at Kempton in February.
