Mullins in no rush with D'Haguenet

Willie Mullins is in no rush to get rising star Mikael D'Haguenet back out this season.

The ex-French five-year-old won at both the Cheltenham and Punchestown festivals, and looks a high-class prospect for novice chases.

"He had a small setback in the last two weeks. He had a splint and then got a cut on a hind leg," said Mullins.

"He's had the stitches out so he could actually start back riding, he is sound enough.

"He is probably going to miss a month and it will probably be December by the time he comes back to a racetrack.

"The fact he ran in a chase in France means I am not too worried about his schooling, he jumps well and as we saw last year over hurdles he could take them on however he met them and I'm sure it will be the same with fences.

"We are looking forward to him going over fences."

Fiveforthree missed Cheltenham last season due a problem earlier in the campaign but only went down narrowly in the Aintree Hurdle at Liverpool.

"Novice chasing is on the agenda but, as it seems every year, he comes back into training with a setback so he won't appear until very late in the season, it will be well after Christmas," Mullins told At The Races.

"If it is too late I might consider the staying hurdles and wait until the following season to go chasing.

"For those people who were considering putting him in a 10 To Follow, he won't run a lot this year.

"Quevega had a setback as well so she probably won't appear until Cheltenham.

"If we give her a race before it that would be it, last year I ran her once before - depending on how quick she comes back Cheltenham is her aim."

However, Hurricane Fly, who also missed the Festival, has had a trouble-free summer and the Champion Hurdle is his aim.

"I'm in no rush with him, March would be the aim. It might be December by the time I run him but he has come back very strong from grass, he's been gelded and I'm very pleased with him," Mullins said.
