Mullins is Leading Trainer for 13th successive year

Following yesterday's announcement by Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) that the 2019/20 National Hunt season has officially ended Willie Mullins is once again the Leading Trainer.

The 63-year-old has now topped the Trainers' Table for a remarkable 13th time in a row and for a 14th time in total having began his training career in 1988.

This season's total of €3,930,118 in prizemoney earned is some €2.3 million less than last season's record haul of €6,266,423.

The total number of winners Mullins trained in the season was 165 compared to 207 in the 2018/19 season.

Mullins' great rival Gordon Elliott filled the runner-up spot for the eighth year in a row with a final tally of €3,820,310 which was only €373K short of his 2018/19 prizemoney earnings.

Elliott trained 156 winners in the curtailed season compared to 177 the previous season.

Flat racing will take precedence over National Hunt when the sport gets the green light to recommence, with HRI announcing that only Flat racing will take place for the first month.

An enhanced programme of National Hunt racing, including a rescheduled Irish Grand National, will take place between October and December and no doubt Mullins, Elliott and the rest of the National Hunt trainers will be eager to hit the ground running and we are likely to see many of the jumping stars out much earlier than in a normal season.
