Trainer Joe Murphy is anticipating an improved display from his star mare Euphrasia in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes at Gowran Park on Sunday.

Although winless in 2014, the six-year-old ran some fine races in defeat, not least when a close third behind Noble Mission and Magician in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh last May.

She made a pleasing return when third behind Fascinating Rock in the Heritage Stakes at Leopardstown almost a fortnight ago and Murphy is hoping for another step forward ahead of another likely appearance at the Curragh next month.

"She's in good form and we think she's come on for her run in Leopardstown," said the Fethard-based trainer.

"I was happy with that for her first run and she always takes a couple of runs to reach her peak.

"The ground is on the firm side of good in Gowran at the minute and if it stays like that we'll probably withdraw, but there's a bit of rain coming in and hopefully they get it. She does need a bit of cut.

"If she gets the ground hopefully she'll run a nice race.

"Ground permitting, we'd like another go at the Tattersalls Gold Cup."

Euphrasia is one of seven runners in the nine-furlong Listed contest, with Dermot Weld's Carla Bianca taking top billing.

The daughter of Dansili won her last four races last season and will likely be a hot favourite to give weight and a beating to her rivals in the hands of Pat Smullen.

Weld also saddles Antique Platinum, while Aidan O'Brien relies upon Wedding Vow.

Ballybacka Queen, Queen Of Alba and Legatissimo complete the field.
