Trainer Johnny Murtagh got off the mark for the new season at Dundalk today, as his Brigid’s Cloak (3/1 - 7/4f) shed her maiden status in the Saturday 12th July Ladies Day At Dundalk Stadium Handicap.

Ridden by 7lb claimer Rory Mulligan, the daughter of Havana Grey quickened clear in the final furlong to score readily by 3.5 lengths from Eric Lock

Mulligan reported "she pinged the gates, I got up into a lovely position, we wanted to be a half (length) down on the leader and that's exactly what I got. We went quick and I got my one lovely and relaxed, I was happy enough that way. When we turned in, she kept finding.

"She was consistent and I'd say the claim off her might have just helped, she might be just a little bit high in the handicap. The cheekpieces probably helped as well."
