Reyenzi (6/1) continued trainer Johnny Murtagh and jockey Ben Coen’s good recent spell when readily landing Navan’s Irish Stallion Farms EBF 3yo Spring Series Median Auction Maiden today, in the colours of the late Aga Khan.

Very slowly away when finishing second on his Naas debut last September, the son of Saxon Warrior today raced mid-field, improved to challenge travelling well two furlongs out and quickened well to beat Vorfreude by five lengths.

Murtagh, who had a Tipperary double on Thursday, reported “I thought he might just need a run. He worked very nicely during the week, but was so green on his first run that I said to Ben to just drop him in and teach him as much as he could.

"I really liked the way, when he got the gap, he came through it well and quickened up well. I think he is above average and it was a competitive race with a lot of fancied horses in it. Ben was very impressed.

"He was green at Naas last year and Shane Kelly (previous rider) was raving about him when he came in. He has strengthened up well over the winter.

“I'm not sure where we go next, but we will see what is there for him: I'm hoping he can shape up into a Stakes horse."
