Naheef not best of vintage says loder David Loder could barely conceal his pleasure after the somewhat-unexpected victory of Naheef in the Champagne Lanson Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood this afternoon. Not that the winning trainer is any kind of stranger to success, having sent out winners with a remarkable strike-rate so far this season. But Loder`s delight with Naheef stemmed instead from his knowledge that there are bigger cannons still to be fired from out of his Newmarket yard before the year is out. Having returned to England at the start of the year to mastermind the juvenile operations of Sheikh Mohammed`s Godolphin team, Loder has an almost-unrivalled armoury of equine talent under his wing. Naheef, a winner of his only start at Epsom, was allowed to go off at 8-1 before swooping fast and late down the outside to score under Frankie Dettori by two lengths from Bragadino with even-money favourite Leo`s Luckyman a further half-length back in third. 'When we get one beat, everyone starts writing us off,' explained Loder. 'We`ve got 100 horses, they can`t all be champions!' Loder admitted that Naheef`s success had not been anticipated. 'He`s a horse that has done everything right from day one,' he explained. 'He started off in a median auction maiden at Epsom because he was qualified to run in one and he handled the track well. 'This horse wasn`t top of our pile, we felt that if he got into the first three then he`d have run a good race, but he`s climbing the ladder. '
