NAVAN RACECOURSE DEVELOPMENT UNDER STARTERS ORDERS

Work on the ?8.5 million re-development of Navan Racecourse has commenced following the signing of contracts between the racecourse and P J Walls Contractors Ltd.

At the signing attended by Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, Mr John O'Donoghue TD detailed plans for the new facilities were reviewed.

The development will include a new stable block with 140 stables, veterinary facilities and new catering accommodation for stable staff. There will be a new weigh room complex, which will include a medical facility, Press Room, and upgraded jockeys accommodation. There will also be enhancement to the owners, members and trainers bar, which will be open to the public on a day-badge basis. There will also be a new golf administration office, pro-golf shop and golf members' facilities.

Commenting on the developments, Matthew O'Dwyer, Chief Executive HRI Racecourse Division said: 'This development will provide a significant enhancement of the facilities at Navan Racecourse which will complement the upgrading of the track over recent years. The top quality galloping track with its steep uphill finish is widely recognised as one of the best in Ireland and five of the ten Irish winners at Cheltenham this year were previous winners at Navan, including War of Attrition.
