Nayati showed an admirable attitude to strike in the Betfred "£5K BTO Cash Draw Today" Juvenile Hurdle at Newbury.

The 10-11 favourite made an instant impact on his first start for Alan King, getting the better of Kapdad by two and a quarter lengths.

Following the race the winner was introduced at 25-1 by BetVictor for the JCB Triumph Hurdle.

King said: "He has only had two runs in his life and he is going to learn plenty. He handled that ground, but I don't think he particularly wants it.

"We have got to the stage where we have got to get them started, as I said with Redicean.

"Wayne Hutchinson said he was a real good-actioned little horse and I'd like to think he will improve on better ground.

"It's my first winner for Mike (Grech) and Stuart (Parkin) so it is a great start."

First Flow made it two wins in succession with a facile front-running victory in the Betfred "Supports Jack Berry House" Introductory Hurdle.

After making a winning debut over hurdles at Lingfield last month, the Kim Bailey-trained five-year-old had little trouble in adding to that, cruising home 20 lengths clear of Dell Oro.

Bailey said of the 6-5 winner: "It was a bad race. He loves that ground and that is key to him. If it was fast ground he would not be running. He can float through that ground. He will be better when goes over fences and goes over further.

"He is very similar to Harry Topper (same owners). He needs to put condition on as he is so narrow, but that will come in time."

Saint Calvados claimed victory on his first start in Britain with a decisive success in the Betfred "Racing's Biggest Supporter" Novices' Limited Handicap Chase.

Despite giving weight away to all of his rivals, the Harry Whittington-trained four-year-old put in an assured round of jumping to cross the line nine lengths clear of Remiluc, who was the only other finisher.

Whittington said of the 7-4 chance: "He is talented and hopefully he will take us to some good places. He is just always in second gear at home.

"It is good now to see him do it on the track, especially on his first time over fences. He has been a natural when schooling at home, he has not put a foot wrong.

"He just cruised around on this ground. Aidan (Coleman) mentioned the Scilly Isles. We will let the dust settle as I'd never thought about it."

Brave Eagle came from the clouds to claim an unlikely success in the Betfred Wishing You A Very Happy New Year Handicap Hurdle.

On the day it was revealed Nicky Henderson had been honoured by the Queen, he cheered home a winner at his favourite track.

Having looked the first beaten down the back straight as Theligny stretched the field, Nico de Boinville persevered on Brave Eagle (11-4) and while last year's winner fought back, Henderson's charge won going away in the end, .

Henderson said of the half-length victor: "That was one of the most extraordinary races I've seen for a long time.

"We ran him the other day in horrible ground at Exeter and I thought he hated it, but it was so bizarre I thought I'd give him one more try.

"At halfway I was thinking the same again and we'd keep him for the spring, but he crept back into it, although I don't know how he got up.

"Good old Nico."
