The Gordon Elliott-trained Ndaawi (8/13) just prevailed in the Acro Fire & Safety Race at Listowel Racecourse for jockey Harry Swan.

A classy individual over hurdles who was victorious in the Galway Hurdle last season, he managed to fight off the Paddy Twomey-trained Sky Captain in the final furlong to prevail by 3/4 of a length in what was a thrilling duel in the closing stages.

Speaking after the race, jockey Harry Swan said:

"My lad is a classy horse, is a Galway Hurdle winner and the likes of him are normally very easy rides.

"I thought I 'had' Johnny (Barry, on runner-up Sky Captain) very easily but his horse battled back and I was a little worried a furlong down. My lad only just does enough and the runner-up isn't a bad horse either.

"Gordon will chat with the owners now and see about maybe going back for the Galway Hurdle again and I'd say it could be likely he'll run."
