Nibras Rainbow made virtually all and gamely dropped his head on the line at the right time in the Velo Coffee Roasters Handicap in Killarney for trainer Paul Flynn.

The leader was pressed by Toy Soldier outside the furlong pole, but it was Jasmine Affanalis who looked the big threat as she stayed on well in the closing stages to throw her hat in the ring.

She got to the leader and led fractionally, however, in a head-bobbing finish close home it was Nibras Rainbow who lined it at 33/1 by a short head over the 11/2 shot. Secret Magician who was backed at big prices during the day, stormed home for third, a neck further back at 16/1.

Jockey Leigh Roche said: "I had won on him two years ago so he likes this track.

"When horses come around him, he can curl up a little bit, but he broke smartly today and I got a nice position. I got my own way in front and, in fairness, he had to be gutsy, as he was headed but battled well and had his head down at the right time."
