Nicholls confident of bold bid from Frodon Paul Nicholls is confident that a bit more restraint in riding tactics will enable Frodon to bounce back to his best in tomorrow’s Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown. The former Ryanair Chase and King George winner got involved in a pace duel with Minella Indo in this season’s renewal of the latter contest at Kempton and weakened early in the straight to finish a well-beaten fourth behind Tornado Flyer. Frodon had made a bright start to the season when getting the better of Galvin in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal in late October and is disputing favouritism with last year’s winner Kemboy in a field of eight for the feature event on the first day of the Dublin Racing Festival. “Everyone knows the way he runs but he doesn’t have to make it,” Nicholls told journalist Dave Keena. “I won’t be getting in a fight like we have done a couple of times of late, I mean it was ridiculous what happened at Kempton. “So Bryony (Frost) can ride him however she feels, really. It’s a big galloping track which will be a little bit more suitable for him and better ground will suit as well. We’ll just see what happens on the day. “Bryony’s been riding both horses (also Ladbrokes Dublin Chase contender Greanateen) so I’ll leave it up to her. “If you’re making it you’ve just got to go a sensible pace, you know. You don’t want want to be going too quick like they did at Kempton over the first half-mile.”
