No Italian joy for Weld as Solitaire is last Irish challenger True Solitaire finished a distant last in the Italian Derby at Capannelle racecourse. Trained by Dermot Weld and ridden by Leigh Roche, the Moylglare Stud-owned colt travelled smoothly enough in third place as the field turned into the straight. But Leigh's companion retreated alarmingly from there on in, with True Solitaire allowed to come home in his own time. The Group Two over a mile and three furlongs was won by Saent.
