Aidan O'Brien retains maximum faith in Due Diligence - despite the sprinter being well beaten for the third time this season in the July Cup on Saturday.

Having finished second in the Diamond Jubilee last season his ability is not in question, but he suffered a setback after that which ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.

Following a satisfactory return over seven furlongs he was quietly fancied for the Diamond Jubilee again but trailed in last of the 15 runners and did not fare much better at Newmarket on Saturday.

"He is just not quite back from the injury he had at the end of last year," said O'Brien.

"I think it is going to take a few races to get him back to where he was.

"He just got tired again. He has still got it and I am sure he will come back."
