Aidan O'Brien's Bolshoi Ballet took the Belmont Derby on the day his legendary sire Galileo passed away.

The three-year-old colt, who had landed a pair of Group 3s this year before finishing seventh in the Epsom Derby, gamely responded to Ryan Moore urgings a long way out to stay on best by a length and a quarter.

Earlier on the card, O'Brien's Santa Barbara picked up well once switched out to win the Belmont Oaks by half a length.

Moore was also in the saddle on her and became the first rider since Jerry Bailey in 2000 to do the Belmont Oaks and Derby double.
