Joseph O'Brien recorded a double at the Curragh yesterday including Puturhandstogether's victory in the lucrative Irish Cesarewitch and gave his thoughts on The Publican’s Son performance in the Middle Park Stakes on Saturday.

After finishing runner-up in the Group 3 Round Tower Stakes at the Curragh on last month's debut, the American-bred was sent off 9/2 for the six-furlong Group 1 at Newmarket but was unable to land a blow and came home with just one of his eight rivals behind him, albeit beaten only a little over five lengths.

“It was a messy race and he got bumped early," said O'Brien.

"It was just his second start and Newmarket is a tough track. It didn’t go for him although when he got the rising ground, he started staying on again, but it was too late.

“We’ll regroup. It was an aggressive ask for him, but we don’t regret doing it.

“We’ll learn and he’ll learn and we’ll go again.”
