Group 1 winning trainer Joseph O'Brien will attempt to add another major milestone to his fledging career when saddling two runners in the Emirates Melbourne Cup on Tuesday.

The former champion jockey is aiming to win the Melbourne Cup before his father Aidan, who runs Johannes Vermeer in the 'race that stops a nation', with the well fancied Rekindling joining US Army Ranger in the field of 23.

After jetting in from the Breeders' Cup in America, O'Brien had a positive update on his two runners.

"The horses are in good form and it's great to be here," O'Brien said on Monday.

"Mark, MJ and Shay are very happy with them and we are looking forward to the race. Most of the hard work was done at home so the horses are fresh and well down here. Rekindling got a good draw, US Army Ranger not so much, but we'll roll the dice and see what will happen."

Max Dynamite, Thomas Hobson and Wicklow Brave will all represent trainer Willie Mullins meaning that the six Irish runners will make up over a quarter of the field for this years Emirates Melbourne Cup.
