O'Callaghan eyes Coventry for Emergency Michael O'Callaghan is hoping State Of Emergency could progress into a contender for the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. The trainer plans to give the Dandy Man colt another run, possibly in the Marble Hill Stakes at the Curragh, to see if he warrants a place in the Group Two over six furlongs at the Royal meeting. State Of Emergency made a winning debut on Sunday at the Curragh, O'Callaghan's local track, but the trainer is convinced the colt was not suited by the heavy ground. "He's come out of the race great. I couldn't be happier with him," said O'Callaghan. "He licked the pot that night, which is a hard thing to ask a two-year-old to do after running on that sort of ground. He has a very good constitution and he's very tough. "That wouldn't be his ground. He's a good ground horse, definitely. He doesn't have any knee action. I think his class has got him through. "He has to step up again now and he might be a Coventry horse, so we'll see. "He might go to the Marble Hill next or a winners' race and we'll go from there. The big hope would be the Coventry if he was good enough because he is a six-furlong horse and a good ground horse. I'm very happy with him."
