O'Connor turns conditional GPT Amatuer Handicap winning jockey of 2007 Matthew O'Connor, known to all in sundry as Strawberry, will have his first ride as a conditional jockey today when he partners Leos Joy for Tony Mullins in the Tote Jackpot Races 3 to 6 Maiden Hurdle at Tramore today. Based with Colm Murphy, the Wexford native was out of luck in his last ride as an amateur when going down by just a neck to Sweet Kiln on the Caroline Hutchinson trained Hu Ha Jo. The 19-year-old O'Connor has partnered a total of 23 winners in his short career and Ciaran O'Toole will be the five-pound claimers agent.
