The Thomas Cleary trained Oh My Word upset some better fancied rivals when making a winning debut under Tommy Halford in the concluding Bar One Racing 'Extra Place Races Daily' (Pro/Am) Flat Race at Navan.

Sent off a relatively unconsidered 33/1 outsider, the Seamus Ross owned gelding belied those odds to run out a game winner.

Held up in mid division by Halford, the son of Poet's Word was pushed along to close on the leaders early in the straight.

Ridden to go second over a furlong out, Oh My Word headed Royal Gladiator 150 yards out, keeping on dourly to win by one-and-a-quarter lengths.

Tom Cleary said: "We thought he should run well, we had him away schooling a couple of times and he did it quite well.

"I thought coming here, if he got a place he would be doing very well.

"Obviously, he liked the ground and we weren't too sure about it.

"He seems a very straightforward horse to do anything with. You'd have to like that about him.

"There is (Flat speed in his pedigree) and he seems to have a good turn of foot alright.

"Definitely no plans yet."

When asked if he is on the market, he replied: "I don't know, there is no plans now, the owner hasn't mentioned selling him or anything.

"I'm just glad to have him in the yard, and fair play to Mr Ross for putting him with me."
