O'Hare Off Mark at Ayr

James Lambe wasn't the only Irish handler smiling after yesterday's Ayr action as Michael O'Hare (an absentee) sent out his first winner when the Paddy Kennedy-partnered Red Scally took the Racing Post-sponsored 'Hands and Heels' Series Handicap Chase.

Son of leading layer, Barney, Michael is based at Castlebellingham, Co. Louth and this was his eighteenth runner. Red Scally was having just his second start for the yard, having won five races when with Richard Guest.

Amateur Paddy Kennedy was gaining his fourth success on the three and three parts of a length winner. Originally apprenticed to Kevin Prendergast on the flat, he is now attached to the Dessie Hughes yard.

O'Hare won't be doing too bad if his career follows the same path as Gordon Elliott. Of course he also got things going first cross-channel and he famously hadn't saddled a winner in Ireland at the time of Silver Birch's Aintree National heroics. (EM)
