Warriors Wood sprang a 16/1 shock in the six-runner novice hurdle on Ballinrobe's card. Sunny South West the even-money-favourite, dictated but was pestered throughout by Huntsgrove and as a result did too much off the front.

The petrol gauge ran dry after the last as Warriors Wood, who was stoked into contention by Darragh O'Keeffe before jumping it, came to pass him in the home straight. Spy went for a gap up the inner, but that was closed by Sunny South West which meant Spy had to switch out to deliver his challenge. Warriors had gone for home in the closing stages and the line came in time as Spy (5/1) was a neck in arrears after finishing well.

Andrew McNamara said: "He is a gorgeous horse with a great attitude and does things really well. He travels nicely, settles and jumps well. Darragh was good and positive on him, that suits him, and he has won on both rides on the horse now.

"He has won twice now and will go up for winning today, but we'll try to find something similar again. It won't get any easier, but going up in trip might help him out too.

"The owner Sean McElroy isn't here today as it was a five-hour drive from where he lives. He is a good man and has a couple of horses in the yard."

This was Warrior Wood's second victory from six outings.
