Options open for Cape Of Good Hope

Aidan O’Brien is in no rush to commit Cape Of Good Hope to future targets following his midweek victory at Epsom.

The Galileo colt mixed it a high level as a juvenile after shedding his maiden tag at Tipperary — filling the runner-up spot behind Quorto in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket before placing third in the Royal Lodge.

He travelled to Epsom for his seasonal reappearance and recorded a narrow verdict over Cap Francais in the Investec Blue Riband Trial.

The Investec Derby itself is an obvious option, but O’Brien is not short of Classic contenders and will weigh up his options much nearer the time.

He said: “I was delighted with Cape Of Good Hope and he seems to be well. We went there because we weren’t sure about the distance or the track and he obviously coped with both well.

“Ryan (Moore) thought he would stay further and we’ll get through all the trials first and see where we are going.

“He can be there to go wherever now.”
