Oracle sole Irish raider in the July Cup

Ante-post favourite Delegator will face 16 rivals in pursuit of victory in the Group 1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket on Saturday.

Saeed bin Suroor's Duke Of York Stakes winner was a late withdrawal from the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot due to the rain-softened ground, but the former top miler is all set to bid for a first Group One success this weekend.

A number of those who did contest the Golden Jubilee are turned out again, including Danny O'Brien's Australian speedster Star Witness.

The chestnut was second in the King's Stand before placing third in the Jubilee just four days later.

Elzaam was fourth in the latter race and will represent Roger Varian, while the fifth home, Bated Breath, will be saddled by Roger Charlton.

David Simcock's classy three-year-old Dream Ahead reverts to sprinting having looked a non-stayer on his seasonal reappearance behind Frankel in the St James's Palace Stakes.

Other interesting contenders include Monsieur Chevalier, Dalghar, Genki and German raider War Artist.

Successful 12 months ago with Starspangledbanner, Aidan O'Brien will this year be represented by Irish 2,000 Guineas third Oracle.

The Danehill Dancer colt followed up his fine Curragh effort behind stablemate Roderic O'Connor when beaten less than two lengths into fourth in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.

O'Brien's wife Anne-Marie said on Twitter: "Oracle will run in the July Cup in Newmarket on Saturday, Colm O'Donoghue takes the ride."
