O'Regan gets 9 day whip ban Denis O'Regan became the latest victim of the new whip regulations in Britain when he was hit with a nine ban at Haydock this afternoon. The stewards ruled that O'Regan, on board well-backed winner Chancery, and 5lb claimer Brian Toomey on runner-up Omid, were both guilty of using the whip with excessive frequency under the British Horseracing Authority's new rules. O'Regan was found to have hit debutant Chancery 12 times in the concluding Polyflor Covering The World Junior Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race for three-year-olds, and will be unable to ride from December 2 to 10 inclusively. He also forfeited his percentage of prize-money. Among the meetings O'Regan will miss are the Tingle Creek at Sandown and the International at Cheltenham. Toomey, whose mount was edged out by one length, will serve his ban between December 2 and 6.
