Sir Peter O'Sullevan may be allowed home from hospital on Thursday after continuing to show marked improvement after he suffered a mild stroke on Sunday.

The 95-year-old retired BBC commentator, affectionately known as "the Voice of Racing", was admitted to Charing Cross Hospital in London on Sunday.

Mike Dillon, the PR director for Ladbrokes and a close friend of O'Sullevan, said: "He is fine. They are doing tests on him and he has improved today. I would think there is every possibility he'll be discharged tomorrow.

"They are pleased with the improvement he has shown and his vision which was impaired and was the main cause for concern has improved dramatically."
