Our 50/1 Day 1 Aintree Accumulator Day one of the Grand National Festival at Aintree looms large on Thursday afternoon with a stunning four Grade 1 contests on the card. Willie Mullins has a strong team travelling to Liverpool as he looks to maintain the defence of his UK trainers' championship by eroding the lead held by champion-elect Dan Skelton — and it could be a fast start for the Closutton chief. They race at the Merseyside venue from 1.45-5.15 and we've put together a day one Aintree accumulator, which pays out at odds of 47/1 if successful. Willie Mullins' star won the Grade 1 Aintree Hurdle at this meeting in 2024, denying Bob Olinger by a nose, after his trainer opted to skip the Cheltenham Festival. He won his first two over fences this season, including the Grade 1 Faugheen Novices' Chase at Limerick over Christmas, before running third behind stablemate Ballyburn at the Dublin Racing Festival. Though the winner was disappointing at Cheltenham since, that's a forgivable run from Ballyburn in the circumstances, and Impaire Et Passe has scope for better back at a track he relishes. Nicky Henderson's Jango Baie had a seriously tough race in the Arkle just over three weeks ago and it could tell now. Lossiemouth gunning for Constitution Hill's crown The Aintree Hurdle will see Constitution Hill and LOSSIEMOUTH locking horns for the second time this season. At Kempton in December, Lossiemouth was held up and never looked at ease, perhaps paying a price for connections' exaggerated attempts to get her to settle. She then fell in the Irish Champion Hurdle but was back at her best in the Mares' Hurdle at Cheltenham last time, while Nicky Henderson's Constitution Hill fell in the Champion Hurdle and lost his invincible status. Constitution Hill was given a properly good workout by Sharjah in this race in 2023 and perhaps isn't as good now as he was then. Giving 7lb to an on-song Lossiemouth is a big ask and it could prove beyond him if Paul Townend's partner is in the mood again. Elliott's recruit has more to come WILLITGOAHEAD was snapped up by owners Bective Stud after winning a Hunters Chase at Thurles in January and duly moved to the Gordon Elliott yard from Sean Doyle. They went in at the deep end for the St. James's Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and the progressive seven-year-old ran a fine race in finishing third. He was clear of everything else behind Wonderwall and Its On The Line and this slight drop back in trip could be ideal for him now. He was a prolific winner in the point-to-point sphere but does not have major miles on the clock under Rules and that Cheltenham run stands him in good stead, as does the promise of a marginally quicker surface.
