Overturn defies top weight yet again Overturn produced an outstanding weight-carrying performance to lift the inaugural Scottish Hydro Summer Champion Hurdle at Perth. The £40,000 prize on offer had attracted a high-quality field to Scone Palace Park, and Donald McCain's gelding was required to carry 11st 10lb under the handicap conditions. Overturn, who has won a Chester Cup and a Northumberland Plate on the Flat and is just as smart over obstacles with a Galway Hurdle under his belt, was most recently seen in action in the Goodwood Cup. Jason Maguire helped the 4-1 shot assume his usual position out in front, shrugging off first Australia Day and then the rest of his rivals, eventually finishing five lengths clear of 3-1 favourite General Miller. Now This Is It was best of the four strong Irish challenge a further length back in third for Stuart Crawford with Paul Townend aboard at 6/1. Winning rider Jason Maguire told At The Races afterwards: "He's a super little horse, he had top weight and the ground had gone against him a bit too. He's a fast horse, he gets out and once he gets in front he gives himself breathers. "He missed the last a bit, which was my fault, he was getting a bit tired but all credit to him as it takes a good one to come and do that. "I don't know what we will do with him, but he'd make up into a decent chaser one day."
