A fine leap at the last sealed things for Paggane as she stayed on best to land the opening mares beginners chase at Clonmel today for Willie Mullins.

The Muhaarar mare had been placed on her first two starts over fences and went to post a 9/4 shot to open her account this afternoon.

She came to join front-running stablemate Karia Des Blaises at the final fence and soon asserted on the run-in, under Paul Townend, to record a two-and-a-quarter length success.

"She has been very consistent without winning, has been running to a good standard and has been on the go for a long time. I've a soft spot for her, I've ridden her a lot so it is nice for her to win,” said Townend.

"She loves jumping fences and I gambled that Brian (Hayes, on Karia Des Blaises) was going to jump left going down the home straight: that was my thought going out, and it worked out. I rode Karia Des Blaises two runs ago and thought Clonmel mightn't be ideal for her.

"Paggane will definitely pay her way although is on the go a long time without a break."
