Pat Flynn is looking forward to dusting off his top hat and tails as he plans a Royal Ascot raid next month with the highly progressive Key Witness.

The son of Acclamation won a Chelmsford maiden for Archie Watson and was bought for just 15,000 guineas at Tattersalls last July.

That proved a shrewd piece of business by Flynn as the gelding has improved rapidly from an initial Irish mark of 71 winning twice at the Curragh and completing a hat-trick earlier this month at Cork to earn a rating of 96.

“He is in fantastic form and will go to the Buckingham Palace Stakes on the Thursday of Royal Ascot, but only depending on the ground,” said the Carrick-on-Suir trainer.

Key Witness has relished soft going including a valuable success at the Curragh in April and Flynn added: “He came out of his last race fantastically well but we're hoping for an ease in the ground at Ascot and if we don't get, we won't go.”
